UNC Elite Camp

UNC Elite Camp

Welcome to Chapel Hill

Let’s just start by saying: the Carmichael arena hits different in person. Walking into UNC’s facilities was like stepping into basketball history.

I loved seeing all the unc game shoes on the wall and then immediately getting reminded, you still have to run sprints.

This wasn’t your average “do a layup and get a t-shirt” camp, UNC ran a tight ship.

    •    Day 1:

Hours of basketball = drills, stations, scrimmages, and just enough conditioning in all the drills to question all your life choices (but in the best way).

We worked on everything; ball-handling, shooting, and off-ball movement. There was a strong emphasis on intensity and IQ. Translation: no hiding in the corner and casually pretending to tie your shoe.

•    Day 2:

3-hour session that still managed to pack in high-level reps, competitive scrimmages,  Legs were tired, but energy stayed high.

Standout Moments

    •    Getting coached and learning from Alyssa Utsby, yeah… that Alyssa! She brought that same grit and motor she played with in the ACC and was clear right off, she really wanted to win our games. We started off strong the first day 3-0. The second day we lost a girl who got injured during a drill but we still fought against some tough competition ending with a 3-3 record. Watching Alyssa interact with campers and demonstrate drills was a highlight. She gave us a glimpse of exactly what “next level” looks like.

    •    The facilities? Insane. Between the practice courts, cafeteria and campus setup, it’s hard not to imagine what it’d be like to suit up in Carolina blue.

    •    Coaches and staff were super involved no one was just “floating” through drills. Everyone was pushed to improve.

Final Thoughts

This UNC camp was a mix of high energy, high standards, and high-level competition. Being surrounded by so many talented players was motivating and a reminder that growth comes from getting outside your comfort zone (and maybe outside your hydration limits).

From the atmosphere to the instruction to the intensity, this camp gave a real taste of the Tar Heel way. If you’re trying to challenge yourself and level up your game, this one’s for you.

Shoutouts

Big thanks to the UNC coaching staff and players for running a smooth, competitive camp. And for making it feel like more than just drills and scrimmages. Special shoutout to Alyssa Utsby for being a baller and a great coach!

(And also my friend Tatum for making me laugh during camp and also looking for me during the scrimmages!)
